Ellie Ann’s hosted the first Portsmouth Foodguide community food tasting event of the year, bringing local people together to share their honest thoughts and experiences around independent food in Southsea.

The idea behind the event was simple. Rather than relying solely on influencers or invited guests, the aim is to involve everyday customers more directly in conversations around local food, menus and independent venues across the city.

Located in Southsea, Ellie Ann’s has built a reputation as a welcoming family-run cafe serving all day breakfasts, lunches, homemade cakes and sweet treats within a relaxed and approachable setting. The venue is family-friendly with high chairs available, dogs are also welcome, and the cafe’s informal atmosphere makes it an easy place to stop for breakfast, coffee or lunch without feeling hurried.

The community tasting forms part of a wider Portsmouth Foodguide initiative planned throughout 2026, focused on creating more opportunities for local people to take part in food experiences across the city while continuing to support independent businesses.

With Portsmouth currently marking 100 years since officially becoming a city, projects centred around independent venues and community participation feel particularly relevant, especially as the local food scene continues to expand across Southsea and beyond.
