Excitement is building along Southsea seafront as the city’s newest stretch of promenade begins to take shape, with the much anticipated relocation of the Southsea Beach Cafe moving closer towards its opening day.
The recent reopening of this new stretch of promenade has transformed the area in recent weeks, with the new section of seafront already looking impressive, ahead of the cafe’s planned opening at the end of May 2026. The development forms part of Portsmouth’s wider sea defence project, which is continuing to reshape the Portsmouth coastline into a modern promenade designed to protect the city from rising sea levels for generations to come.
The existing Southsea Beach Cafe site will remain open until the end of the year, with hopes to eventually return as part of the next phase of sea defence works are planned for this section of the promenade in 2027/28. In the meantime, diners will soon be able to enjoy an exciting new location, positioned even closer to the harbour entrance with incredible views across the Solent and even more passing ships to watch whilst you sip on your cocktails on the outdoor terrace.
The new venue is expected to retain everything people already love about Southsea Beach Cafe, this includes the brilliant staffing team which certainly keeps us coming back. The new venue will also be introducing a larger layout and a fresh new atmosphere inspired by the relaxed style of Dutch beach bars.
Once complete, the entire stretch of the Southsea promenade is set to deliver not only improved flood protection, but also a world class waterfront destination that could completely redefine Southsea seafront and with a world class venue to match the location, a massive well done to everyone involved in the project.
