Back in 2023, I visited Sea Lanes Brighton for the first time and instantly saw the potential for something like it right here in Portsmouth. I even made a reel at the time saying “Wouldn’t something like this be a cracking addition to our seafront?!” and I’ve been banging that drum ever since to everyone I met in the council.
Yesterday I heard the news, I couldn’t be happier to share that Sea Lanes have officially been announced as the new operators of Hilsea Lido. For those who have been to Sea Lanes Brighton, you will be sharing my enthusiasm right now; for those who are yet to visit, I strongly encourage you to make the journey. If you like great food, drink and exercise; keep reading!
After years of pushing to bring greater awareness of what Sea Lanes have created in Brighton, we finally have it confirmed that Hilsea will have the same vibrancy which this brilliant venue brings to Brighton, which is an incredible mix of outdoor swimming, independent food and drink and active, vibrant community spirit, it feels like someone in the council finally took notice.
Their plans go beyond just a pool. Just in these early stages, they’re bringing with them a sauna, pop-up food and drink, plus a vision that sees Hilsea Lido as a proper community destination; somewhere to move, recharge and connect. A space that celebrates health, good food, local talent and a waterfront culture. Exactly what our city deserves.
The potential for Hilsea to become home to not only year-round swimming, but also a new wave of independent food and drink is massive. And with Sea Lanes now leading the way, that future feels very real.
Watch this space, things are about to get very exciting up in the north of the city.
