Follow in the footsteps of Britain’s most celebrated naval hero on an unforgettable evening of food, storytelling, history and entertainment.
Journey through some of Old Portsmouth’s most iconic historic venues as live characters bring the dramatic world of Admiral Lord Nelson and the Battle of Trafalgar to life around you.
Enjoy a specially curated two-course dining experience inspired by the flavours of the Georgian era, alongside drinks, fascinating storytelling and traditional sea shanties. Discover hidden tales, raise a glass to victory and become part of a unique experience where history is not just told, but lived in the very streets where Nelson once stood.
Your evening will feature a delicious main course of slow-braised beef cheek in red wine jus, served with Cavolo Nero, shallot and clotted cream mashed potatoes, followed by steamed Victoria plum pudding with vanilla bean custard.
Meet a cast of live characters who bring Portsmouth’s naval heritage to life through storytelling, humour and unexpected encounters. Explore historic venues, uncover local legends and enjoy a fitting tribute to one of Britain’s greatest naval heroes, before raising a celebratory port toast at the end of the experience.
The evening will also feature traditional sea shanties, maritime entertainment and the opportunity to share a memorable experience with fellow history lovers, food enthusiasts and curious explorers.

Event Information – This experience is organised by Portsmouth Foodguide, a local organisation passionate about celebrating Portsmouth’s independent businesses, heritage and community. With over 25,000 followers across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn, we use our social media platforms to champion the fantastic places and people that make Portsmouth special. We run our events on a not-for-profit basis, with passionate locals giving their time to share their love of Portsmouth and provide an enjoyable, great-value experience for the community. Please arrive 10 minutes before the start time. Your booking confirmation, either digital or printed, would be helpful, although the name used to make the booking will be sufficient for check-in. Please make us aware of any allergies or dietary requirements before the event. Guests wishing to consume alcohol should bring acceptable photographic ID, such as a driving licence or passport. We operate a Challenge 25 policy, meaning we may ask for ID from anyone who appears to be under 25. Comfortable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended, as the experience involves walking between venues along public streets and historic pathways, with some time spent outdoors. Guests must be able to manage two flights of stairs and walk approximately 120 yards between locations at their own pace. Some parts of the experience have limited wheelchair accessibility, and the historic buildings may present access challenges. Please contact us before booking to discuss any accessibility requirements. We may take photographs and film short video clips during the evening to create promotional content for Portsmouth Foodguide’s social media channels and website, as well as a potential feature in the local newspaper. If you would prefer not to appear in photographs or video footage, please let us know before the event or upon arrival. Please respect fellow guests, performers, venue staff and the event organisers throughout the evening. The team gives its time out of a genuine passion for Portsmouth and its community. Abusive or inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated. Anyone behaving inappropriately may be reminded to drink responsibly or asked to leave. No dogs please. Refunds cannot be issued.
Battle of the Beers

Includes 6 generous tastings of new and exciting selections of craft beer with an explanation for each, as well as tasting cards, scoresheets and a prize draw to end the evening.
This is a true bringing together of local food and drink fanatics who perhaps want to feel more integrated with the Portsmouth community. Perhaps you’re keen to find out more about beer or you’re just curious to know what a new venue is like if you’ve never been before, maybe you’ve been before to one of our epic beer tasting nights so you’re back for more fun, or you just simply want a good reason to enjoy an evening out with friends and loved ones.
We’ll have six incredible new releases of craft beer to taste, each one with its own style. Crisp, bold, hazy, punchy, maybe even a little rebellious with a style you’ve never tried before.
The Drayton Tavern also has an extensive range of craft beers which will be available to purchase from the bar.
What beer will reign supreme? Only you decide.
