A few months back, Meat & Barrel teased something special on their social media, and I finally made it down to their pub on Palmerston Road to see what’s cooking that’s new. I wasn’t disappointed.

Brothers Will and Ben have been running the pub from day one, their new menu is stacked with flavour, with a clear new focus on their burgers, the return of the Southsea Burger Club. I had the chance to try three of their best offerings.

First up was The Big Dippa; triple smashed beef patties loaded with cheese, onion rings, burnt onion mayo and tangy burger sauce, served with a cheese dip and crispy onions.

Next came the Filthy Chick; southern fried chicken with blue cheese, a hash brown, lettuce, Buffalo sauce and more burnt onion mayo. This is my personal favourite.

For those looking for a plant-based option, the Vegan Barrel didn’t disappoint either, with vegan patties, vegan cheese, smoky facon, onion rings, vegan mayo, lettuce and Barrel BBQ sauce.

Let’s just say it got messy, but in the best way. Meat & Barrel is firmly one of my top burger spots in Portsmouth, offering big flavours, generous portions and a menu that keeps you coming back for more.

If you’re in Southsea and craving a burger experience that hits all the right notes, Meat & Barrel is the place to be.
