For anyone looking to try somewhere different this weekend, Justasia is quickly becoming one of the more interesting independent food spots in the city.
Located a short walk from Portsmouth International Port, the cafe has introduced Portsmouth’s first Filipino cafe concept, combining Filipino inspired cooking with wider Pan Asian influences across its breakfast, brunch and lunch menus. The result is a selection of dishes that cannot be found elsewhere along the south coast, offering something noticeably different from the standard cafe experience.
The menu draws inspiration from countries including the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore, while also incorporating familiar brunch favourites with an Asian twist.
One standout dish during our visit was the Manila Bang Bang Chicken, featuring fried chicken pieces coated in the cafe’s own spicy Manila mayo sauce and served with steamed rice. It is a simple dish on paper but full of flavour and easily one of the strongest recommendations on the menu.
The all-day Filipino breakfast menu is another major part of the offering, including dishes such as Chicken Tocilog, a sweet and savoury marinated chicken served with garlic fried rice, egg and salad, reflecting the style of breakfast dishes commonly found across the Philippines.
Alongside breakfast options, the lunch menu includes noodle dishes, rice bowls, bao buns and Filipino Pan-sets featuring stir fry noodles, spring rolls, vegetables, fried rice and a choice of Filipino meat dishes.
As Portsmouth’s independent food scene continues to diversify, Justasia feels like an important addition to this jigsaw puzzle, particularly for those interested in exploring flavours and dishes that remain relatively difficult to find elsewhere locally.
