Another independent business has recently joined the growing food scene along Albert Road, with CinnaRollz: The Bakehouse opening its first permanent premises after building a loyal following through markets across Hampshire.
Founded by Portsmouth local Connie in early 2024, the business originally began as a market stall focused around handmade cinnamon rolls. As demand increased, the business quickly developed a reputation for regularly selling out at events across the region, with customers travelling specifically to find them.
Now based in the centre of Albert Road, the new bakehouse represents the next stage for the business, bringing together cinnamon rolls, pastries, cakes, focaccia sandwiches, sausage rolls and brunch dishes under one permanent roof.
During our visit, arriving slightly too late for one of the cinnamon buns proved to be a mistake judging by how quickly they disappear, although the focaccia roll more than compensated alongside a coffee supplied by Hampshire-based coffee roasters Moon Roast Coffee.
The bakery’s signature cinnamon rolls remain the main attraction, with flavours ranging from the classic cream cheese frosted original through to pistachio and white chocolate, Biscoff, lemon and blueberry, carrot cake, dulce de leche and rotating seasonal specials. Limited edition flavours including Kinder Bueno, Malteser and Galaxy Ripple variations also regularly appear on the counter.
Alongside the sweet bakes, the business has expanded into savoury options through its Southsea Sailor sausage rolls, focaccia sandwiches and brunch menu, all produced in house. The wider cake selection includes burnt Basque cheesecake, tarte aux pommes, lemon meringue tart, pastries and gluten free options.
The opening of businesses such as CinnaRollz continues to strengthen Albert Road’s reputation as one of Southsea’s strongest independent shopping and food destinations. Just a short walk away is Casa de Castro, another long-established independent patisserie known locally for its quiches and cakes.
For those choosing where to stop for coffee, brunch or baked goods in Southsea, venues like CinnaRollz demonstrate why independent businesses continue to play such an important role in shaping the character of Albert Road.
